How Did I get here?
Every once in a while, someone will ask me why I chose to go into photography. I could never give a straight answer because there are just so many reasons as to why photography feeds my soul. That may sound weird when you read it but when you find something that you're so in love with, it will never get old and getting the chance to do it creates this full feeling, you know like after a Thanksgiving dinner makes it all worth it.
I have started telling people that I didn't choose photography, it chose me. It really did. I was in a rough place my sophomore year of high school when I would take my camera to the sports events to get photos for classmates. I had an interest in creating photographs before, I had just never done anything with it. Getting into sports photography basically started it all for me. My Junior year of high school I joined Yearbook and was referred to as their main photographer as I was at almost every event. It was the same way my Senior year. When it came time to pick a college I ended up choosing Northwest. They had a stellar reputation in regards to their photography department and it was close to home.
Fast forward to school at Northwest, it beat all of my expectations plus some. I absolutely loved it! I had finally felt like I belonged somewhere. Towards the end of my last year, they had asked what I wanted to specialize in & yet I was faced with another question I couldn't answer. I had no idea. I enjoyed doing commercial photography and portraiture. When asked, I would just explain that I do everything from pets to commercial photography. I have been graduated for over a year now and I am now able to answer that question.
What do you specialize in?
While I love all types of portraiture photography, there are a handful that I have found I enjoy the most. This does not mean that I don't do other types, I just mostly focus on what I specialize in. Those being, Newborn, Children, Maternity, Weddings, Engagements, Elopements, Personal and Boudoir.
I chose my specialties very carefully. I enjoy creating images and memories for clients within these types the most. A majority of these session types are considered milestones in life. The expressions from clients as they hit one of these milestones is unimaginable. It fills my heart with so much joy as I am the one who has preserved that milestone for them & for that I know they will forever be grateful. The other sessions that aren't considered milestone such as Boudoir & Personal are sessions that give me & the client the most creative freedom along with contributing to their self-confidence.
Photography is an art form & the styles I have chosen to spend more time and specialize in challenge who I am as an artist. When I create an image or complete a gallery, I feel a huge wave of relief and success. Now, I may not have been able to accomplished exactly what I was hoping but I don't dwell on that feeling. The way photography works, is every image I create, that is my perception of the client & their milestone.
I always go back through galleries and really look them over and write down everything I don't like about it and everything I do like. With the next session I have that is of the same area I will apply those changes. I always look for new ideas to implement into by business to better serve my clients.
You know I may just be starting out but I will ALWAYS put my heart & soul into every session I walk into.
