5 tips on Choosing the right Photographer

It doesn't matter if you are hiring them for your wedding, to capture your family or to up your self confidence. Choosing the right photographer makes all the difference in your whole photography experience. Professional photos are an investment in your family and yourself. In the years to come, you will want to be able to look back on your images and your experience.

  1. Determine your Budget; before you book a session with a photographer, you should already have a clear idea on how much you are wanting to spend. You may find a photographer that you are just absolutely in love with, but their packages are out of your price range. To avoid being disappointed, work out your budget before hand!
  2. Ask to view previous Work; you could look at a photographer's' website and social media over and over and never fully grasp a full gallery without asking. If you are able to see a full gallery then you can understand their style & their ability from one of their sessions. Of course, you don't have to ask to see full galleries from every photographer.
  3. Know what type of Style you Want; Each and every one of us photographers have a different style. Some of us may look the same, but I can truly say that the way I run my sessions and edit as compared to the next photographer are different. Photography is an art form specifically for clients and their editing is their gospel. If you ultimately don't like the way they've edited, or if they have more posed vs candid photographs then you won't be satisfied with their work for your session. Whatever is important to you, don't give up on finding it because I promise you, there is a photographer for you!
  4. Don't be scared to Ask Questions; Personally, I love it when my clients ask questions! I will ask multiple times throughout the booking process if they have any questions! Any other professional photographer are use to questions and want to make sure you have all of the information you need to make a solid decision!
  5. Understand your rights as a client; As a client, you will want to understand the permissions and rights around your photos, especially if you’re planning to print the images yourself. Most photographers offer a release that allows you to use the photos for your own personal use, but it’s important to understand the specifics before you sign a contract.

When it comes to choosing a photographer, it’s important to get all your questions answered upfront and to find someone whose style and vibe matches your vision for your images. The better your connection with your photographer, the more comfortable you’ll feel and the better your photos will turn out!
